At a trade show a few years ago the e-learning company Pluralsight was handing out webcam covers. You stick this over the camera, and it has a shutter which slides out of the way when you want to use it. It works very well. Unfortunately there's no easy fix like that for the microphone.

You could open the laptop and destroy the microphone, then plug in an external one when required. The sound from internal microphone is not usually very good anyway.
