You may not be aware that there is a config option for this:
Setting alsadev=default in the [sound] section of your config file
(.gnome2/linphone) should accomplish what you need.
Either way, I agree that the frontend needs to allow a user to specify
his own sound device - in the same way that gstreamer-properties does.
