When I got a Sony VAIO VGN-AW... laptop about one year ago and installed Ubuntu 10.4 my internal mic was not working. I did not try custom kernel compiles or tweaking module options. I just tried the linux-backports-modules-alsa... package that made it work. The backports contain NEWER modules that just worked in my case. I don't know how or why :-) When it comes to ALSA I know just part of the API... Dragos
