Hi Soren,
I'm not an Apple expert either, I feel more at home in the Windows/Linux
world. But who need to be and Apple expert? Those things are idiot-proof,
if not jailbroken. If no other third party apps are installed and
'Background App Refresh' is on, it must work. And if it doesn't, you have a
problem. I think you can do much more, if you have no "Battery Savings
Apps".
The only think you can try is put back factory settings, and reinstall
again, but I don't know if that will solve the issue, but I wouldn't know
something else. You can install some other communication programs to see if
they not fall in sleep.
I remember in May when I had similar issues as you on my iPhone, my Android
device kept all the time connection.
