I was talking about users of the open source linphone app, rather than
having to rebuild it just to change push credentials and gateway.

I don't follow.  When a user runs a program, and has a server that the
program contacts, there is no good reason for the *app developer* to
be in the middle of push, to have cryptographic keys (even
authorizing), or to have any role at all.

But, this is google's and apple's fault, not yours -- and I was
criticizing them for being monopolists and forcing centralization, not
belladone.

I suggest that belladone take the high road and implement UP, so that
users can use whatever push they want.  This is quite common in the open
source world, and I think it's reached it being more typical to have it.
