HI, Joe,

I find here that linrad-02.14 makes nice gif files. With 02.19 I get NO gifs either from linrad or xlinrad. I installed just 2.20 and I also get no gif files with it, whether I run it from commandline mode or from within xwindows, whether I use linrad or xlinrad [latter only from xwindows, of course]. IN other respects, 02.189 worked fine for me during the eme contest.

So there seems to be an issue with gif file creation and at least 02.19 and 02.20. I guess you were lucky to get 'any' file at all ;)

Quoting Joe Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Hi Roger and all,

Thanks for posting your screen shot from last year's ARRL
EME contest. It's prettier than mine, anyway... :-)

I think think my picture may have shown more JT65 EME
signals, since there was a lot more activity this year. I
*know* my picture has a lot more birdies than yours, hi.

I was using (x)linrad 02.20 during the contest. Yes, it was
slightly modified, but only in ways that have nothing to do
with palettes or color settings.

The white horizontal lines are from when I transmit. Last year in the middle of the contest, but after this picture was taken, I subsequently modified the receive chain so that what I now see in the main waterfall when I am transmitting is a black horizontal line with a white vertical marker that shows where my transmitted jt65b signal actually is, so that I can tell that I am actually on frequency. During transmit the high resolution display and the filter window also show my signal, scaled down in amplitude so as to be useful [i.e. to have the same amplitude as a strong jt65b eme signal as received here], and I can see nicely where each of my jt65b tones, as actually transmitted, fall within the receive filter window.

Between the first and second weekends of the EME contest I
made a change to Linrad to remove the white "transmit
lines", which I found very hard on the eyes after several
hours of staring closely at the screen. Although this was
entirely a software "fix", the effect was very similar to
what you describe. It made the system much more pleasant to
use -- and made it easier to find the weakest JT65 signals
soon after they showed up on my screen.
