I know this issue will come up at one of my locations, so to get a head
start...

Application development on Linux/390....

The CIO is all ga ga over Linux. And the mainframe is the first box
that Linux will be installed on. He thinks Linux is the best thing
since sliced bread and I have trouble reigning him in to reality.

Anyway, one of the projects he wants on Linux/390 is Linux application
development. What this means, I don't know. Except that some Linux
application developers need a platform to work on. Perhaps some of
these applications will stay on the mainframe, perhaps the development
work will stay on the mainframe. Don't know what will happen, when
other Linux boxes are proposed or tried to be justified.

Anyway, for any shops that do development of Linux applications (you
know, the in house stuff, not to be sold or distributed), what tools do
you need?

What are the preferred tools?

Are these tools available for Linux/390?

What is the cost of these tools?

I would like to hear about both Websphere stuff (some applications may
be headed that way) and non-Websphere stuff (I assume there are other,
non Websphere applications).

Sure, there may be some web hosting applications. But I assume that
there are other types of applications. Right?

Or perhaps this stuff I don't have to worry about. It could be that the
application developers know what they want and all of it is available
for Linux/390....True or false?

Thanks
