Hmm... If you run multiple operating systems on a single CPU then you will sometimes not have the processor. I fail to see why this would be better with LPAR (assume he will run VM anyway, I cannot image he installed VM just to run Linux and z/OS on the same MP3000). Why not? I am running OS/2, DOS/VSE, OS/390, Z/OS, Linux and OMVS. Why wouldn't install VM to try out Linux and z/OS? First thing that might be interesting is what part of your CPU usage is in emulation mode and what is in CP. If you're not running performance tools to see that you're asking for problems ;-) but 'IND USER ....' will give you some indication. This way you may be able to decide whether VM has trouble to give Linux the resources or whether Linux is unable to deliver function for the resources it gets. We have determined the problem to be Linux is unable to deliver the resources it gets. I suppose your network between z/OS and Linux is out of the box and then back in again, right? Are you running the optimum MTU that you can afford there? Do Linux and z/OS have their own LCS3172 or is one of the through the VM stack? Or do you have a straight vCTC between MVS and Linux? The MTU is set to 1492. Linux and z/OS have their own device. There is vCTC between MVS and Linux. Rob
