> Is there really a need to dasdfmt following the CMS FORMAT/RESERVE? No. You should not. With 'dasdfmt' you overwrite everything that CMS put there. The resulting disk is not eligable for Diagnose I/O as far as the Linux dasd driver is concerned. A 'mke2fs' (or 'mkswap' in the case of swap space) *is* required.
PS There have been cases where Linux was so confused about the current contents of a new disk that you could not get it as far as running dasdfmt. In those cases doing a CMS FORMAT would get you started again.
