I finally have the kernel able to properly insert the tape390 module under SuSE 2.2.19 (LPAR on MP3000). I have also created the necessary tape devices under /dev .
However, No devices are listed in /proc/tapedevices and they are clearly listed in the /var/log/boot.msg The tape devices are channel attached but unfortunately they are shared CHIPIDS, and currently online across three LPARS. I vary offline the tape devices from the other LPARS before I run modprobe on the tape390 module, but I am not sure if the CHIPIDS have to be varied offline as well. Of course, reading through the documentation there are plenty of warnings about not sharing devices but nothing stating that it won't work. This would be sooooo much easier if we had VM. Unfortunately I have to justify linux before we can bring VM back. Any ideas would be great Thanks, Tyler Koyl Software Support Programmer Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Regina, Saskatchewan Canada
