The more recent kernels can be configured to separate R/O and R/W part on megabyte boundaries to put it in an NSS. The order of various steps in the initialisation of the kernel are a bit unlucky, so an NSS turns out to be far less flexible for the kernel than with CMS for example. We're looking at reworking the iplparm patch (also in the redbook) for the 2.4 series kernel to see how much of the problems can be fixed. The DCSS block driver still has my interest, but progress is slow for me. I can currently use DCSS as swap device (slightly better than V-Disk, but not worth the trouble). I know others are working on similar concepts. Rob
