I'd like to trade notes with anyone who's actually running IBM's "on demand timer" kernel patch on an S/390 or zSeries box, especially under VM. We're trying to reduce unnecesary CPU consumption by our several dozen Linux/390 guests, and the VMer in me "knows" that getting rid of the 100-times-a-second timer pop must be a good thing. But before I go through the rigamarole of getting it installed on a system I can try real workloads on, I'd like to see what others have experienced.
Thanks, Ross Patterson Computer Associates
