I wonder how much of this is driven by the line-mode characteristic
of the console (specifically HWC and emulated 3215, but also
effectually when 3270 driver is employed). In fact, it is
not intractable to get full-screen and colored text applications
that work the same on a 3270 or on a PC.

I wonder if *that* is what drives some of these "look and feel" reqs,
the ability to run (eg) YaST from a 3270. To me, it's a small step.

I would also like to see correlation between
"look and feel" detractions of S/390 compared to the same req for
"look and feel" on Alpha, MIPS, PPC, and other non-INTeL Linux.
I mean, are there NO OTHER SYSTEMS where you cannot run
(eg) YaST on the console when installing Linux? An HP-class
VT52 workalike on an HP 9K class machine comes to mind.
What do the Linux-on-HP proponents do for the install?

Then again ... an F-16 should never be equiped with a steering wheel
and pilots just gotta be trained. [sigh]
