The Marist and SuSE distributions both run "/sbin/depmod -a" during startup (Marist out of /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, SuSE out of /etc/rc.d/boot). I don't have a Red Hat s390 system close to hand, but I expect it does as well - Red Hat i386 certainly does (/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit). Ross Patterson Computer Associates
