I think there's a rawhide package that coexists.

Yo could maybe try this:
ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/raid/3/redhat/linux/rawhide/SRPMS/SRPMS/pytho
n-2.2-7.src.rpm

If you can't build that, then use the tarball it contains to build it
yourself and install into (probably) /usr/local but maybe somewhere
more private, perhaps create an account (python2) for the purpose.

Take care with the PATH settings.
