This is why IBM should obtain their tape number by lanana. The answer is that unless it has an official lanana entry its random. Some future S/390x with PCI capability is going to be nicely screwed by the current arrangement. It'll also be rather tricky for S/390 to ever meet the Linux Standards Base in that situation Alan
