You have to query the real package names, not the name of the software:
rpm -q mod_php4
rpm -q mod_php4-core
rpm -q phplib

If you want to see them all: rpm -qa | grep php

dependencies...

mod_php4-core, successfully installed
mod_php4, successfully installed
phplib, successfully installed...

rpm -q php show "package php not installed"

when i search for php in the index of the suse distro cds, the only one i
haven't installed is phpdoc...

?
