That sounds to me like an identd- or tcpwrapper-related issue.
I'd compare the /etc/inetd.conf files from the two systems, and
failing that, the /etc/pam.d/login files.  Either way, I think
what you'll find is that the Red Hat system is trying to find out
either the name of the system you're connecting from, or the userid
you're logged in as on that system.
