We run z/VM 4.2 with Guest Lan and let VM TCPIP do the OSPF routing (MPROUTE) (no RIP or static here). It works really well. The really nice thing is that once you've configured VM TCPIP OSPF routing, you don't need to do anything to it to add more Linux guests. They just join the lan and are routed to the network. Very cool. Let me know if you want more details. Mark has the basics of setting up Guest Lan on the HOWTO page of the linuxvm.org , but that example is static routing.
