Samy, Chris,

It's not _guaranteed_ that you'll damage your NTFS file system. I've used
it several times in write mode with no problems, but have had problems on
other occasions. The driver is listed as VERY experimental in write mode,
and deservedly so. To my knowledge, read mode has not caused any problems,
as Chris indicates.

There is an NTFS module available. If I'm not mistaken, read works pretty
well, and if you want to trash your fs, you can use write. It's been in the
works for quite awhile, but it is apparently very difficult on the write
side of things.

Yes, you have to compile the module, and there should be docs for it in your
linux source directory.
