I have a problem getting the RH 7.2 install system up and running under a VIF image. I created a new DASD, formatted it and put a filesystem on it. Mounted the new dasd at /mnt, cd /boot, did a tar cf - . | tar xf - -C /mnt (as described in the ISP/ASP RedBook alt boot section). Ftp'ed kernel.img(bin), initrd.img(bin), redhat.exec(ascii), and lpar.prm(ascii). I modified lpar.prm as: root=/dev/ram0 ro ip=off DASD=0201-020f HOST=imag240.marr.com:iucv0:222.111.6.240:$TCPIP:222.111.128.121:1492 NETWORK=222.111.128.121:255.255.255.0:222.111.128.121 DNS=222.111.128.97 SEARCHDNS=marr.com RPMSERVER=dasdh1:/cd1 SWAP=/dev/dasdf1 MOUNTS=/dev/dasde1:/,/dev/dasdi1:/usr INSTALL=default
I ran the silo command (from SuSE 2.2.16) as "silo -f kernel.img -b ipleckd.boot -p lpar.prm -d /dev/dasdg -t2". After booting the "g" drive I get: RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0. Freeing initrd memory: 8192k freed Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:00 I've searched the archives and haven't found a good match. The closest was Mark's response to a "Red Hat Install Failure" on 1/22/02. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
