This list still needs an FAQ. NTP was discussed back at the end of February.
Thread starts at http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.24043 and ends at http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.24156 Take a look at the item I posted at: http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.24080 Most interesting post ever made on this list on VM, LINUX and Time was in the earlier thread (an item by Romney White in reply to Ross Patterson) http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.22171. (It is probably worth chasing that thread too.) Don't use server 127.127.1.0, use a real NTP server (plenty of good stratum 2 or 3 servers out there on the 'Net) or fixup a local x86 machine running Linux (of course) hooked up to a WWVB receiver (stratum 0) or GPS NMEA receiver (stratum 0). http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/clock1.htm (public stratum 1) http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/clock2.htm (public stratum 2) DON'T use NIST it is very heavily overloaded, especially at GMT midnight and local midnight in each of the US continental timezones. Regards, Dougie.
