It also lets you do the same automation for non-Linux systems > too...8-) > --d b and the neat part about syslogging Unices to another (maybe offsite) unix with a different architecture is that if/when somebody breaks into one unix box, they _might_ be hot enough to remove their tracks from the local syslog file, but I doubt that there's many of them around who could also (and simultaneously) remove tracks from the logging (and archiving) going on on the /390 side. OK, it's only UDP, but it _does_ give them a good run for their money.
