I didn't see in your post.... The disk space you are using on the MP3000...it is
1. Emulated DASD (IE part of the 14 GB of disk space that is available from the OS/2 side)? 2. Internal DASD 3. Channel attached DASD The emulated DASD doesn't do writes too fast. But it does do reads fast. It does have its own RAID Array adapter. The internal DASD, will be faster. However, I assume that SAMBA is a single task writting to disk, so there is little opportunity to overlap I/Os and/or us other RAID Arrays within the subsystem. Internal DASD has a single RAID Array adapter in each frame. That adapter has 64 MBs of read cache and 16 MBs of write cache. Where read cache can be supplimented with real storage from your main storage for read cache (and/or MDC when running under VM), there is nothing in the system to suppliment write cache. Channel attached DASD can have giant amounts of write cache which can hide any performance problems. However, in a single use test I ran, the MP3000 Internal disk outperforms our RAMAC Dasd Subsystems. Tom Duerbusch THD Consulting > > I've run it twice, with a size of 400 and 256.
