The 7026-H50 is a CHRP platform pretty much identical to a
7025-F50, which _is_ supported. It has the same limitations
as an F50 (max 3GB of RAM, last time I looked) but can only
house 2 hot-swap SixPacks. Memory & CPU cards are inter-
changeable (at least the 332MHz ones) between the two platforms.
(The 166MHz version of the F50 CPU cards barely interchange in
regular F50s, so I'd recommend not entertaining the idea.)
Some reasons to think twice about running Linux on such a
beastie:
1) Linux and HotSwap doesn't mix very well;
2) Linux and SSA don't mix at all;
3) Getting Linux to run headless has not been painless,
and, on a 43P-150, I finally gave up and slapped a nice
monitor (19") on it just to get it going.
While I haven't attempted to experiment with Linux on one of our
H50s (though the temptation has been pretty strong; We've got
one acting as a sandbox, it's just that we can't afford much of
an outage on it just now) I've dealt with both platforms for
quite a while.
I also haven't worked up the nerve to try another headless (serial
console) install; I guess I'm just a coward at heart.
Oh, yes, Hercules compiled just fine but the CCKD dasd handlers
didn't work (though cckd2ckd _did_ work fine). While I don't
have any useful figures for throughput (having only doinked with
it a little bit before having to do _real_ work) it seemed pretty
peppy on a 43P-150, though I wonder if the RISCiness of the 604e
may work against the byte-oriented architecture of the s/390.
