rpm command alone functioned fine. I did notice that I had a space in the
directory name /incoming/s390 JDK

When I renamed the directory to /incoming/s390_JDK the yast installation of
packages in that directory worked fine. I had gotten a "Can't fine
PREIN...." message for several packages that I had grabbed this morning. So
it seems that either yast or rpm cannot handle a space in the path name. I,
alas did not run RPM from root level in the HFS and explicitly path to it
in order to check thing fully.

Note that this is on the 2.2.x kernal. I am not going to be upgrading the
easy way to the 2.4.16 kernal because my boss just told me to take my
experimental Linux system production for a while to support an application
that needs to access an external SQL datasource because apparently
WebSphere 4.1 for s/390 cannot do that as yet. SO I get to install tomcat
on a system I cant back up except for manual tape operations or FTP of
archived structures. Joy and happiness abound.

Could you try it with the rpm command itself (logged in as root) like :

        rpm -ivh IBMJava2-SDK-1.3.0-13.0.s390.rpm

And report the results of that back here ?
