The I/O Subsystem in S/390 and zSeries processors provides up to 8 paths to every device. This is handled in the I/O Subsytem hardware, which is a separate processor (or processors) from the application processors. For more information see the z/Architecture Principles of Operation. http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/DZ9ZR001/13.0? Regards, Jim
