Chong,

Thank you so much for this. There are a lot of us that need this working
example, regardless of how good some are at cloning. I know I (and a lot of
other people) appreciate the work you've put in to make this available
outside IBM. (And now I can knock one more item off my "people to be
pestered until they cough up the goods" list!) :)

Subject: LinuxWorld Demo (Cloning Linux images under zVM using IUCV)
package is available

 Hi,

With the activities I have seen on this mailing list, I am sure most of you
are experts at cloning Linux images/instances on z/VM by now. For some of
the new people who just got started with Linux on zSeries/S390, I thought
it may be still be helpful to share my tools/experience on cloning Linux
under z/VM.

Here we are: I packaged all the execs, cgi, html, files, etc into a package
(VMARC file). This package and the install/setup instructions are now
available on my home page on the VM Website -
http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/chongts.

This cloning demo package provides one example of the many ways to clone
Linux images using z/VM. A scaled down "LinuxWorld Linux Images Cloning
Demo" is used to illustrate the cloning process. The demo that I used at
the last LinuxWorld Conference clones Turbolinux 6.5.1, SuSE SLES-7.0 and
RedHat 7.2 images. However this example demo clones only SuSE SLES-7.0
images. This demo has two components: Cloning Continuously via CMS and
Cloning on Demand via a Website.

I am working on this demo package on the side and this is my first draft.
I will do my best to provide assistance and answer questions. Please feel
free to send your feedback to me. It will be nice to know if this demo
package can provide usefully information for you on cloning Linux images.

Please read the setup instructions (
http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/chongts/tscdemo.html) before you proceed to
experiment with my demo package.

Have fun!

Chong
