To all, This link was provided by IBM for a offline backup/restore. We have been playing with it, assembled it on Z/OS 1.2. Backup and restore runs fine, but we haven't verified a good restore yet (for previously posted reasons). We are taking another backup today (with Linux down) and will restore to another disk set in the future.
" This is the site for shareware that another customer ran to backup/restore "offline" Linux vols from MVS LPAR. http://www.clueful.co.uk/mbeattie/s390/offlindr.jcl " I wonder if the author is on the list? He's most likely using CDL-formatted DASD which can be varied online to OS/390-z/OS systems. Hi Kevin, The ability to do this very thing is a critical success factor for our Linux/390 trial. I have succesfully dumped a Linux image (4 X 3390-3 on HDS 9960) to tape and restored it again, followed by a succesful boot and test, using OS/390 2.10 DFDSS. I did, however, shut it down before running the OS/390 dump job. If you want any further details, such as JCL I used, I would be glad to provide it.
