Hello,
I am trying to bring up RedHat Linux 7.2 in an s390 partition. I have
brought up Suse successfully, but I would like to use RedHat. I am having
problems with RedHat. I get to the end of the first phase installation
successfully and then execute the rhsetup command. The installation process
begins and I see the packages added as they are installed. I have installed
both the default packages and all packages and have the same problem. I get
an error message about the boot record not being written. I am then ask for
a password. I can enter a password successfully.
I then mount /dev/dasda1 and /dev/dasdb1. I edit the zipl.conf file to
change /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.9-17-tape to /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.9-17tape and rerun
zipl which appears to complete successfully. I re-IPL and I can logon as
root to RedHat Linux at the HMC. When I try to ping myself or telnet to the
RedHat Linux system, I get the error NETWORK IS UNREACHABLE. If I execute
the ifconfig command I see an lo entry but not an eth0 entry. If I execute
the command ifconfig eth0 informm11 broadcast 129.255.114.255 netmask
255.255.255.0 I get the response SIOCSIFADDR no such device eth0: unknown
interface no such device SIOCSBRDADDR no such device eth0: unknown interface
no such device SIOCSIFNETMASK no such device.
It appears there is something wrong but I don't know what it is. I can
successfully telnet to the linux system that is created from the
installation tape and I thought the installation used the values that were
given to the initial installation linux system. I did not specify the
parameters in inst.parm/lpar.parm, I just replied to the questions asked by
the setup script. Does the rhsetup process get confused when the questions
were answered in the setup script and not put in the inst.parm/lpar.parm?
Any ideas on what might be wrong would be appreciated.
