As with all good tales there's an element of truth there;-)

We have more varieties of snake than any other country, and two thirds of them
are venomous. So if you want to eat one, take care.

There's a plant grows in the southwest of WA called a zamia - we used to call it
a zamia palm, but it's as much a palm as a koala is a bear. Except the zamia
does look like palms.

It's toxic. Think curare (did I get the spelling right? Anyone from South
America?).

The aborigines used to eat them.

A lot of Australian fauna is somewhat resistant to ten-eighty because a lot of
Australian flora produces it.
