One reason I decided to await my vendor's pleasure is to avoid solving these
problems for each release.

Its true there is a compatibility feature now which I think wasn't available
when I wtdt.

Since then, someone told me devfs isn't the way to the future. Perhaps Alan can
add to that or deny it.
