This may not be immediately reasonable; Each Intel server seems
to have a fair amount of CPU utilization. Compute-bound workloads
won't move as well to a VM system unless you're willing to throw
a lot of CPs at it.
Seriously, you could probably _try_ running Linux in that LPAR
alone and see what you get in terms of impact. If you can see
whether the workload will be a "good neighbor" is not really as
deterministic as you think.
Though if M$ ever got NT/W2K running on an S/390 I can't see it
being a "good neighbor" compared to Linux.
The (naive) impression I've had (please realize that I'm a real
newbie on mainframes these days) the best neighbor behavior goes
first to CMS, then VSE, then OS/390 (uh, zOS) and then Linux. I
think Linux is quickly moving towards being as good (if not a
better) neighbor as OS/390 but I doubt it'll ever get a cozy as
VSE reputedly is.
Of course, someone's gonna correct me, but then, I expect that.
