I can't say it's better or not. It's different. Ned is a full screen
3270 editor. It runs on real or simulated 3270s. THE, I believe (I
haven't used it) is a 3270 style editor that runs on ASCII terminals
(or their simulated equivalent). If anyone remembers edgar, you may be
comfortable with Ned.

Ned is especially useful if you have a Linux system running under VM
and the console is defined as a 3270. You can do full screen editing on
the console (and avoid ed). This is pretty nice if you don't have any
networking connections to your Linux system yet.
