Oops, Thanks to all,

I thought I did all the makes, but it looks like the typescript file says I only
did
        make dep
        make image
        make modules
        make install
seems I left out the make modules_install.

Looks like the last two things on my list are zipl and mingetty.

zipl worked fine on 2.4.7, so of course, it changes on 2.4.17.
Now I can't seem to use a config file, or even the default.
It looks like the zipl code in the s390-tools patch needs to re-made with
HAVE-PARSECFG ifdef'd in, but the code isn't there to do it. It's easy enough to
get around this, but it is a pain, especially with little to document the
change.

Also, without knowingly changing the kernel configuration, other than to include
IP tunneling, accounting, and killing the HZ timer ticks, I no longer have a
console. mingetty can't IOCTL /dev/console, and in turn init gets mad about
respawning mingetty.

Inappropriate ioctl for device

Inappropriate ioctl for device
Jul 12 15:12:35 ihlx37 init: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Jul 12 15:12:35 ihlx37 init: no more processes left in this runlevel
