Hello everyone,

We have recently migrated a listserv server to linux/390. At first it
appeared to work flawlessly, but it soon began to exhibit strange behavior.
Messages will sporadically build in listserv's spool directory and are
never delivered. There are entries in the maillog that correspond to each
of these messages:

lnxxxxx sendmail[12075]: g6E9B1K12075: lost input channel from
listserv.lsu.edu [xxx.xx.xxx.xxx] to MTA after rcpt

It looks like sendmail is losing connection to listserv, even though they
are on the same machine. There is no discernible time or cpu load pattern
for these errors.

Our listserv admin is very experienced and has never seen this error
before. All of the advice that she has found online suggests optimizing the
software in ways that she already has. This has led her to believe that it
is an architectural issue, either resource constraints or more esoteric
issues. Has anyone out there seen this problem and does the linux/390
platform exacerbate it?

Michael Lambert
