and easy free parking, no RSVP needed, just attend and enjoy. Bring or
send friends who need to know about Linux.

If you've heard about Linux but haven't tried it yet, join us at this
meeting and get an overview of what Linux is and does, and how it
compares/contrasts with Microsoft Windows. Panelists and commentators
will highlight its origins and unique place in the developer community
and share information on how to get Linux (including free downloads
for getting started), on Linux user groups, and on other Linux
resources.

Greg Pryzby moved from Mac to Linux in 1993. Shortly after loading
Linux from 50 floppies, he started looking for other Linux users in
the Washington, DC, area, and ended up starting a Linux Users Group,
LUGMAN (which is now the Northern Virginia Linux Users Group,
NOVALUG). Greg has worked for VA Research/VA Linux Systems and helped
companies migrate to Linux. He is the president of NOVALUG.

Geof Goodrum, GNU/Linux SIG Leader, Director, Membership Chair, and
Former President and Newsletter Editor, Washington Area Computer User
Group (WACUG), began using GNU/Linux in August 1994 to provide ftp
services for his government agency. Since then he has gained
experience in dial-up networking, software RAID, e-mail servers,
network and security monitoring, and more in a corporate environment.
Geof removed all Microsoft products from his personal computer system
and expects to do the same on his system at work soon. He also
encourages and facilitates the trend to GNU/Linux in his organization.
Geof opposes proprietary software, protocols, and file formats,
believing that Open Source has proven its superiority in every area.

Frank Hum has been involved in information technology (IT) for 20
years. He has worked for large corporations, run his own consulting
practice, and worked for a Linux services company. He is a
contributing author for two Linux books from SAMS publishers, _Linux
Unleashed_ and _SuSE Linux Unleashed_. Recently he has been involved
with Security Enhanced (SE) Linux projects at George Washington
University. In addition, Frank is a popular presenter on various
aspects of Linux at user groups throughout the Washington, DC, area.

Phil Smith III has worked with various operating systems, mostly on
IBM mainframes, for more than 20 years. He is now deeply involved in
the evolution of Linux on IBM mainframes running under z/VM.

CPCUG member Marshall Culbreth will relate his early "adventures" in
installing and using Linux.

Bring your questions about Linux for the Q&A session.

9:00 pm Late Night Gatherings--listen for announcements:

   o Beginners (and Beyond) SIG
   o ACT! SIG--not confirmed

"Late Night" consists of smaller and more informal gatherings. It
provides an opportunity to learn more about CPCUG member benefits and
about some CPCUG special interest groups (SIGs) and Training
opportunities. There is almost always a separate question and answer
gathering for computer novices at the Beginners (and Beyond)
SIG--bring a friend/colleague/spouse/parent. Listen for an
announcement about "Late Night" during the regular meeting. Take
advantage of this informal setting to network and ask your computer-
