ftp type for suse 7.2

 I recently upgraded Suse to rel 7.2 and encountered strange
problem: when doing FTP from VM (or MVS) to the linux machine the type
for file transfer is shown as "local 8" instead of ASCII. As the
result a CR character is added in the end of each line. Did it happen
to anybody else? What can I do to fix the problem?
