Hasn't been able to since CMS v3. Head over to alt.folklore.computers and ask Lynn Wheeler about it. Basically, CMS uses a VM DIAGNOSE to do its I/O, rather than talking to the metal (or, at least, the emulated metal provides a function the physical metal doesn't). Although it *might* be able to under Hercules. I remember way back in the 1.54 days or so that some of the DIAGNOSE instructions were being put into the instruction set so that CMS could run "native" on Herc. I don't know if that was ever completed though. Adam
