It's my understanding that certain key portions of the .NET framework aren't
quite open.  Apparently Microsoft could restrict them at a later date if
they choose.  See this article...

Thats cool. There is something excruciatingly funny about Microsoft .NET
compatibility existing as free software and java only in a proprietary
form.
