anyonre know of a putty like program that one could run under OS/390 or
Z/OS (OMVS?) to allow automation tools on the MVS sode to access linux
images running on the mainframe hardware? I am having problems installing
OpenSSH on os/390 and I don't need the full suite of OSH stuff for this
anyway.

re: root login
Some distributions do not allow login to root using telnet. You should be
able to 'su' to superuser, though. If it's really necessary to login as
root, use an emulator that supports SSH. From my win2k system, I use
'putty' which can use either telnet or ssh protocols.
