That depends on what Linux distribution you're using. If SuSE, you should use YaST to make sure the network device is configured: yast->System administration->Network configuration->Network base configuration
If Red Hat, there should be a file named /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 that contains the information.
