Well, I just went through the various web pages myself.  When I got to the
final page where you accept the license, the filenames shown all had .s390.
in them:
IBMJava2-SDK-1.4-0.0.s390.rpm
IBMJava2-SDK-14.s390.tgz
IBMJava2-JRE-1.4-0.0.s390.rpm
IBMJava2-JRE-14.s390.tgz

That should make it easy to tell them apart.

Are you sure that you downloaded the zSeries (S/390) version and not the
xSeries (Intel) version?
