I popped off an email to SuSE, but I've never had good luck in getting responses from them. It's kind of a bummer that they'll be charging though. We just bought the 7.2 version. Now we'll have to return to the coffers for more. :-(
Sure wish IBM would support Debian. It is SO VERY much nicer to use. Leland, True, but the point is that a price will be charged. I wasn't clear enough about the quote I included. As you do, I assume that the Linux/390 version will be priced higher, perhaps proportional to the ratio of $129/$749. Hmm, read the announcement a bit more and it appears that the $129 will be for the x86 version. (It seems a bit low by "mainframe" pricing standards.) Leland, Yes, they will. The press release for SLES8 stated that "For the benefit of users of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 who participate in the Maintenance Program, SuSE offers an upgrade to SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 together with the documentation at the price of US$ 129.00." http://www.suse.com/us/company/press/press_releases/archive02/sles_8.html That would imply that if you're not a current paying customer that the previously existing rules would apply: http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.23045 Mark Post -----Original Message----- From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Lucius, Leland Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 2:38 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Most 'mature' distribution? > Also, SuSE is due to come out with their SLES8 Real Soon Now (it was > announced it would be ready in December of 2002). Do you happen to know if they will charge for the upgrade? Leland
