Stephen, You can run NTP on your Linux/390 systems. I do on mine. The only caveat I would have is that if you have VM and wind up running hundreds of Linux/390 guests, you don't want them all trying to contact an external timing source. Some folks have set up one guest as the local timekeeper, and the others guests talk to it.
