Don't do it now. Use the M4 macros -- they're much easier to understand and
use.

If you're using SLES 7, be sure to upgrade to the current version of
sendmail (at least 8.12, higher is better).

Next thing to do is get a copy of what Yast is creating for a .mc file.
'/sbin/SuSEconfig.sendmail -m4 > /etc/mail/suse.mc' is a good start. Note
that after that point, you should tell YaST that you are manually updating
the file, so it doesn't clobber your changes every time you update something
with yast. Note also that the linux.mc file that is in /etc/mail is NOT the
same thing (isn't even close).

The easiest thing is to select the features you want in your .mc file (if
you want, I can send you mine). I'd strongly suggest enabling amavis to do
virus scanning (a nice package that seems to stop most of the common virii),
and turning on selected DNS RBLs (see a previous posting on how to do that).

You then run m4 on the .mc file: 'm4 suse.mc > suse.cf'. This produces the
dreaded sendmail.cf file in all it's arcane glory. Look at it and make sure
any long lines are actually ONE line (not line wrapped).

You then replace /etc/sendmail.cf with your suse.cf, eg:

cp /etc/sendmail.cf /etc/sendmail.cf.OLD
cp /etc/mail/suse.cf /etc/sendmail.cf

and restart sendmail with your fave technique.
