It would appear so.  Configuration using ftp.us.debian.org worked just fine, 
but the security update check did not work.

I also got some errors during configuration, see my initial post in this 
thread for details.  They're not too important at the moment, but I'd really 
appreciate some guidance on how to track down the errors and correct them.

When you get back and figure out the http_proxy stuff, please also let me know 
if there's anything I can do to correct it on my configured system.  I don't 
begrudge another 5-6 hour re-configure if it's too messy to fix, but it 
*would* be easier not to have to do that again.
