Yes, the new DB2 8.1 code requires you to use a gui install "widget" on all platforms. On S/390, that means that you must have X-Windows code installed on your image, have the client running, and have an X-Windows server available on a PC or workstation.
Of course a lot of workstation and PC based Linux distributions have this feature installed and enabled by default, so it's no big deal to have it as a requirement.....on S/390 it's another matter.....
