The guest LAN vs hipersockets decision also should be based on whether you need media-level broadcast support or not. Hipersockets doesn't do that. Get away from the point-to-point (ie IUCV and CTC) links as quickly as you can.
Design it like you would a LAN connected to a WAN extension.
