Subject: MTU size

I've been wondering about the MTU sizes I've chosen for a while now.
VM TCP/IP owns and ethernet adapter on a M3000. It's MTU size is 1492.

All my linux guests connect to VM TCP/IP through VCTC connections. The
Linux's MTU size is 4000. Am I causing VM TCP/IP a lot of work to break up
these packets from 4000 to 1492 to put on the wire? Am I worried about
nothing? Should all guests connected to VM TCP/IP use 1492 to keep all
packet sizes consistent?

TIA
